Social Ministry
Parish Social Ministry Coordinator: Sr. Anne Carron RSM "There are few things the poor prize more highly than goca; though they cost the donor nothing, among these are the kind word; the gentle compassionate look, and the patient hearing of their sorrows." During the Christmas season we distributed gifts, toys and gift certificates and food certificates for more than 80 families. We have reached out to Hempstead, Uniondale, and Far Rockaway. A very special thanks to all those groups and individuals who help us continue our work with the needy in our community.
The second Thursday of each month a hot meal is prepared by our volunteers and served at Eastwoods Senior Residence in Syosset. Approximately 45 residents who join in the meal. There is usually musical entertainment, a sing-along, karaoke or the girl scout carolers brighten the afternoon.
Our pantry is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 12 noon. At all other times simply call 516-921-8030 ext. 137.
A new Bereavement Support Group, trained and sponsored by the diocese, has been organized for all persons grieving the death of a loved one. The eight week program will begin in March. For more information call Sr. Anne at 921-8030 ext. 138.
